Nathan Kroeker serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Spark Energy and is a member of the company’s Board of Directors. He was appointed as President in April 2012 and appointed as Chief Executive Officer prior to the close of the company’s IPO in April 2014.
Nathan joined the company in July 2010 as Chief Financial Officer of Spark Energy and Marlin Midstream Partners, LP, an affiliated midstream energy company. Prior to joining Spark Energy, he was Senior Vice President, Finance from December 2009 to July 2010 for Macquarie Energy, the global energy supply, trading and logistics division of Macquarie Bank. He also served as Chief Financial Officer from March 2004 until March 2006 for the retail and wholesale businesses of Direct Energy, the North American subsidiary of Centrica. He has over 20 years of experience in retail and wholesale energy, M&A and public accounting. Nathan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a licensed Chartered Accountant in Canada.
Nathan is a national trustee of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and formerly served as a board member for the Texas Diversity Council, where he received the Diversity First Award. He is actively involved in the community with several organizations, including Helping a Hero, Lemonade Day and Child Advocates. Nathan is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities with his wife and 3 children.
Gil Melman serves as Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, a position he has held since February of 2014. Gil is responsible for Spark Energy's legal, risk management, and compliance matters.
Prior to joining Spark Energy, Gil served as the General Counsel to Madagascar Oil Limited, an oil and gas exploration and production company. Previously, he has acted as general counsel and in-house counsel to several energy companies as well as a regional private equity fund. Gil began his career practicing corporate law with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP, where his focus was primarily in corporate securities and mergers and acquisitions primarily in the energy industry.
Gil holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.
